Pre-Law Scholarships (nomination deadline: March 21)

Warner-Brainard Pre-Legal Presidential Award

  • Eligibility criteria: Junior or Senior minoring in Pre-Law Studies; minimum GPA of 3.0; demonstrate outstanding scholastic achievement; person of outstanding character whose actions and conduct reflect credit upon EIU
  • Nomination letter from an EIU faculty member should be submitted to Karen Swenson, PLS Department
  • Award announced at Political Science Department Awards and Recongnition Dinner on April 14

J.Y. Kelly Scholarship

  • Eligibility criteria: Junior minoring in Pre-Law Studies; demonstration of outstanding scholarship and leadership
  • Nomination letter from an EIU faculty member should be submitted to Karen Swenson, PLS Department
  • Award announced at Political Science Department Awards and Recongnition Dinner on April 14

C.A. Hollister Scholarship

  • Eligibility criteria: Junior or Senior; minimum GPA of 3.25; minimum 4 courses in the Pre-Law minor curriculum; minimum one PLS public law course; active membership for one full year in the Pre-Law Society or Phi Alpha Delta
  • Application and Nomination letter from an EIU faculty member should be submitted to Karen Swenson; see Swenson for application
  • Award announced at Political Science Department Awards and Recongnition Dinner on April 14

    Data on EIU Students, 2009-2010:


    • 59 Eastern Illinois University students took the LSAT during the 2009-2010 academic year
    • 36 of these students completed192 applications to law schools
    • 67 of these 192 law school applications were accepted*
    • of these 36 students, 27 were accepted to one or more law schools
    • of these, 20 students registered at a law school for the 2010-2011 academic year
