Symposium Notes & Schedule

The symposium will be held in the Charleston-Mattoon Room (3rd floor) of the EIU MLK University Union. The Union is located on the corner of 7th Street and Grant Ave. Turn south off Lincoln Ave. at 7th Street or east on Grant off 9th Street. Parking is free on weekends and available adjacent to the union. Campus Map
Bring a laptop computer if you have one. These will be used to run the software that program the robots.
Please arrive for registration by 8:30am. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided

  9:15am - Session 2: Hands-on Workshop:  Building and Programming Robots
11:00am - Session 3: Resources for Teachers

12:30pm - Session 4: Connecting Mathematics \& Science with Robots
  1:00pm - Session 5: Hands-on Workshop:  Data Logging \& Programming
  2:30pm - Session 6: Building a Community - Next Steps; Snacks
  3:00pm - Symposium ends

K-12 teachers of mathematics or science are encouraged to register. No prior experience with robots is necessary. Registration is free, but limited to the first 20 registrants. A stipend and CPDU’s are available to participants.

The focus is three-fold:

A hands-on workshop for designing, building and programming robots
To explore using robots to enhance, illustrate, and reinforce lessons already being taught in mathematics and science classes
To network with other educators to explore ideas for the use of robots within the classroom
