GOAL #1 THINKING BIG

1. conventional behavior

task

attend a 'fantasy NSTA Convention' by reading an old Convention Program. Make a daily schedule: workshops; main speakers; field trips; visit the exhibition center; parties; dances; flirting; dinners; etc.

write a letter to your principal requesting professional leave to attend the convention. Include your itinerary ... rationale for attendance ... and of course, the costs! For starters, the air fare is $350 ... & hotel is $90 / nite.

as you peruse the catalog look for session titles that stress the teaching strategies on which this course is based.

These 'buzz words' are everywhere. Ahh, this course is preparing you for the real world.

rationale

most elementary teachers never ever even dream of attending a science teachers convention. This is because they really don't 'see themselves' as science educators.

from the convention booklet you'll see that most of presentations are by elementary teachers for elementary teachers.

By jove -- you CAN do it. Think big.
