rationale

being a good science teachers isn't good enuff. You need to be a politically wise science teacher.

while playing TENURE, you'll have to make an incredible number of decisions in the daily life of a teacher.

if you make the right ones ... you will get tenure.

if not, you will be fired. Simple.

WELCOME TO EIU NOVANET!!!

NovaNET is a computer-based education resource... a resource of interactive lessons covering a wide range of subject areas and educational levels. There are several NovaNET systems throughout the world. ElU is connected to the system called "nova" with its mainframe at the University of Illinois where it was originally conceived as PLATO by Dr. Donald Bitzer over 30 years ago. Access is now possible from any Local Area Network (LAN) connected computer that:

1) has the NovaNET software installed or
2) can access Booth Library Network Services.

To the user, the most important difference between the dedicated terminal and the PC is the keyboard. NovaNET lessons are programmed to utilize special function keys that were unique to dedicated terminal keyboards.
Some of these special functions are "Back", "Stop", "Erase", "Data", "Next", "Lab", "Help", etc.

The lessons specify when to use these keys.
Since the PC doesn't have keys labeled in this way, certain of its keys have been designated to correspond to the special NovaNET keys. Look at the "key" below.

It shows key equivalents, e.g.

key, etc.

Additional keymaps are available from SMC as well as the Help Desk at Lumpkin Hall.

Use the following procedure to sign on to the system:

1. When prompted for your NovaNET name, type: student

2. When prompted for your NovaNET group, type: eiubooth

3. Choose "D" Educational lessons then choose "G" to access TENURE. - NOVANET
