PIAGETIAN TEST RESULTS

when studies have been done thruout the country they show that the majority of students do not have the rational problem solving powers to understand the concepts that are attempting to be taught.

This first study comes from Renner (dr. leyden's teacher in Oklahoma).

grade --- #kids --- concrete --- transition --- formal
7th--- 96--- 80--- 13--- 3
8th--- l08--- 83--- 19--- 6

9th--- 94 --- 77 --- 5 --- 9
l0th--- 94--- 68--- 16--- 10

11th--- 99--- 70--- 17 --- 12
12th--- 97--- 64 --- 15 --- 18

Notice that nine kids were "formal thinkers" in 9th grade and only l8 were "formal" by l2th grade.

This was not a longitudinal study (following the same kids for six years), BUT it might be assumed that the value of spending an extra three years in school is to have another nine students (9%) move to formal operations. Yipes!

9th grade typo: 94 vs 91 12/18s/93

This study comes from some friends in Colorado ... and I do not know the (N) ... or the original source
