Field Trip To Ashmore School,
October 9
We have a SCIP field trip to Ashmore
School scheduled for Thursday, October 9. Ashmore is a K - 4 building that
was designed as an open school. All the classrooms are open to the library
in the center of the building. It is a very neat place to visit. Hopefully
many can attend. We will pick you up in a yellow school bus outside the
main entrance to the Buzzard Building at 6:00 PM on Thursday, October 9.
We will return by 7:30 PM.
Advisement
Advisement has begun and is on-going
until October 27. Sign up on the chart posted outside the Department offices
or email Mrs. Barford . The schedule
of classes will be published on October 6. SCIP priority registration begins
on October 13.
Emerging Technologies in
the Classroom, October 10
Just a reminder that the registration
deadline is approaching for the P-16 educational technology conference
scheduled for Eastern Illinois University on Friday, October 10. The conference,
Emerging Technologies in the Classroom, will be held in the Grand Ballroom
of the Union beginning at 8 am. The keynote will be Dr. Marianne Handler
from National Louis University speaking on combining the Illinois Learning
Standards and national student technology standards to create student learning
environments. This will be followed by several breakout sessions designed
to discuss different ways to use technology to enhance teaching and learning.
The listing of currently planned breakout sessions is being emailed to
the SCIP email list.
Fall Teacher Match Meeting,
October 30
We will be meeting in Buzzard Room
1121 from 6:30 to 7:30. Our program will include the introduction of a
new cohort member, introduction of the new SCIP web page, a panel discussion:
"Spotlight on Today's Professional Practice" with Mrs. Kathy Miller, Mrs.
Sandy Evans, Mrs. Laura St. Gemme, Julia Lage, and Kevin Johnson, and our
teacher match for Spring 2004.
Trip to a Champaign-Urbana
school and "Coping with Classroom Realities" Seminar, December 12
This
trip has been canceled but will be rescheduled for late January 2004.
We will leave EIU from Buzzard at 7:30
a.m. and will arrive at Yankee Ridge Elementary School at 8:30 a.m.. We
will meet with principal Mary Beth Norris, teacher-in-charge Nancy Blanford,
and technology coordinator Georgette Moore. After an orientation regarding
school goals, challenges, and achievements, we will be able to observe
in classrooms throughout the school. Look for evidence of technology integration,
diversity (there are students of many languages and from all over the world),
full inclusion, a district BD program, the arts umbrella cycle, project-based
learning, and the Writer's Workshop - a draft book writing program. Following
a debriefing with the faculty and principal, we will depart Yankee Ridge
at 11:30 a.m. and travel to the Champaign offices of Dr. Michelle Olsen,
student teaching coordinator. We will have lunch, and Dr. Olsen will present
her seminar, "Coping with Classroom Realities." We will depart at 2:00
p.m. and should arrive back on campus an hour later, 3:00 p.m..
