Driving Directions from St. Louis International
Airport
Notes: this route may differ from the directions that
Mapquest, or a similar web-finder site, generates – it may save
you time; also, see map below.
- From the airport or rental car agency, get yourself onto eastbound
Interstate-70 (heading towards downtown St. Louis).
- After about 10 miles, you will be in downtown St. Louis, and I-70
will merge with two other interstate highways, I-55 and I-64. Remain
on eastbound I-70 and cross the Mississippi River into Illinois.
- After crossing the Mississippi River proceed approximately 3 miles
where I-64 will split off from I-70.
- Take the eastbound I-64 exit (#3), towards Mount Vernon and Louisville.
- Continue east on I-64 for approximately 45 miles.
- Take exit #50 southbound on Illinois Route 127 (IL-127, headed towards
Nashville and Murphysboro)
- Proceed about 50 miles south on IL-127; at the town of Pickneyville,
IL-127 merges with IL-13 (continue south). At Murphysboro, turn left
on IL-13, heading east towards Carbondale.
- Continue east for approximately 8 miles, through downtown Carbondale,
and then turn right to head south on Giant City Road (there is a traffic
light at this intersection; if you reach Crab Orchard Lake, you have
gone too far).
- After approximately 7.5 miles on Giant City Road, turn left onto
Touch of Nature Road (TONEC sign will be on your left at this intersection
– see blue pin on map, below)
- At this point, be on the look-out for SEG-IV signs.
- Take the first available left on to Fern Ridge Road and follow this
to the parking lot for Camp 1.
