For the second year in a row, Sigma Phi Epsilon has dominated the Eastern Illinois Greek Week. During the week of April 3rd to April 9th the brothers showed that their virtue, diligence and brotherly love is the best on the campus. With 14 other fraternities competing this year, SigEp stood out from the rest, having the largest turn out for the St. Judes letter writing campaign, Volunteering time at Jefferson fun day, and donating the most money for Coin Wars.
For the 16th time the men of Sigma Phi Epsilon took home 1st in Greek Sing.
With brother James Roth directing, brother Sean Tyree on the guitar, Student Body President Michelle Murphy playing the piano, they sang “Haven’t Met You Yet” by Michael Buble, “Up Up and Away” by Kid Cudi, and a mash-up between “Viva la Vida” by Coldplay and “Hey Ya” by Outcast. The performance can be seen on Youtube here and the Greek Sing Awarding can be seen here.
For the third year in a row a SigEp
rope tugged their way to a championship. The little men defeated Alpha Tau Omega, Sigma Chi, And Sigma Nu. With Little Men tugs winning the championship, Big Men easily took third with a 26 second tug against Lambda Chi. The championship little men tugs video was edited by Brother Travis McDonald and can be viewed here on Youtube.

When it came down to the awards banquet on April 13th, it was Sigma Phi Epsilons hard work in the spot light. Brother Mike Nowak, B.S., 2009, was awarded the Dr. Charles and Mrs. Sharon Eberly Essence of Fraternal Values Award, for his work in “Just a Mile Foundation” for suicide prevention. SigEps Ed Hotwagner, Andrew Shipp, and Ryan Graff made the Top Ten Greek Men list. The most Outstanding New Initiate Award went to SigEp Antonio Taylor. The Charles “tight” Carter Awards won by SigEps this year were:
IFC: Ed Hotwagner 2010 IFC President
Athletics: Ken Tiltges NCAA Swimmer
Academic Achievement: Andrew Shipp
IFC Delegate: Vito Martinelli
You can see the Youtube videos of other events we competed in here: Airband and The Flash Mob. Because of all the preparation and hard work that went in to this week the Illinois Nu SigEps came home with the most awards out of any fraternity on campus. Proud to be a SigEp!
