The Student Investment Society is a student-based organization that manages a small portfolio of stocks. An Eastern alumnus, Mr. Paul Ruedi, donated the original money to allow SIS to start operations.
Now, SIS has weekly meetings. At these meetings, a group of 2-3 students presents a stock that they believe will be profitable. Members of SIS then discuss the stock and vote to determine the outcome. The members of SIS also control the buy/sell decision, and therefore are responsible for the gains and/or losses that the portfolio incurs. Once the portfolio reaches a level sufficient to support consistent outflow, it will be used to create scholarships.
Dr. Chiou and Dr. Lach serve as the faculty advisors of SIS.
