Introduction to the historical, social, cultural and environmental setting of the Cape Town area of South Africa using literature, field trips, local historians, museums, and arranged cultural experiences. Required reading prior to departure. FCS 3853 - Child Development Practicum, 3 s.h. Gallery Utilizing an on-site child care/child development setting for students' practicum experience and contact hours. FCS 4275 - Undergraduate Internship, 3 s.h. With international human service organizations such as Care Haven, Thembalitsha Foundation, Beth Uriel School, LEAPS Math/Science Academy. FCS 4686 - Brain Development, 3 s.h. Will provide the opportunity to implement activities designed to maximize brain development at on-site child care/educational facilities. FCS 4840 - Disadvantaged Family, 3 s.h. * FCS 4845 - Family in Crisis, 3 s.h. * FCS 4854 - Parent-Child Study and Community Involvement, 3 s.h. * FCS 5990 - Graduate Independent Study, 3 s.h. Focusing on an aspect of human development/human services on-site. FCS 5980 - Graduate Internship, 3 s.h. Service learning in the context of local or international human services/human rights organizations. * Utilizes on-site resources for field trips, speakers and observations.
