The cost of housing (accommodations) for the entire semester is included in the program fee. Accommodations are on a ‘sharing’ basis usually with twin beds and sharing bath and kitchen facilities. Several weeks will be spent outside of Cape Town. Sample locations are included in the photo gallery, along with some outstanding views and surrounds.
Utilities such as water and electricity are included. However, the cultural focus on conservation is much stronger in South Africa than in the U.S. Students need to be responsive to this ‘no-waste’ practice. Environmentalism is a strong force most places in South Africa.
Internet access will vary according to our location. Basic e-mail capability will be program-provided as well as digital access to EIU for on-line courses. Other access/use such as Skype, photo uploads/downloads, Internet surfing and music/video downloads will be at students’ expense.
Telephone access via a land line is not certain but will be available as possible.
Security is a high priority and is the pivotal consideration as final housing is determined.
