Q:
How
do I log onto the class Web site?
A:Type
in http://www.eiu.edu/~srippy
into a browser; it is recommended that you use either Netscape 7.0 or higher, Safari, Firefox, or Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher. DO NOT USE the AOL browser since it does not work very well with WebCT. You may use AOL to connect
to the internet but you then need to start one of the listed browsers to use for the course. Once at the class
web site, click on fcs1120. When using WebCT, click Check Browser at the top menu bar above all of your courses to see if your browser settings are correct.
Q:
Where
do I get the password to log onto my WebCT
desktop or have your WebCT password reset?
A:
Every student has their own WebCT id which is the same id you use for your
PEN account. You will use this WebCT id to logon to your desktop and place
in the text box requesting your Username. If you are logging
onto WebCT for the first time your password will be the same as your PEN email account password . If you do not remember your password, you will have to have to contact the Help Desk, (217) 581-HELP,
to have your password reset. It is important that you login to WebCT using your PEN id and password immediately since there are discussion questions
and quizzes you will need to take.
Q:
How
do I print off the syllabus?
A:In
the browser (Netscape 7.0 or higher, Safari, Firefox, or Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher) of your choice, click on the
print icon or press File, Print.
Q:
How
do I get to the lecture notes and when will they be available to view?
A:
Type
in http://www.eiu.edu/~srippy
into the browser of your choice and click on fcs1120. Click on Notes.
Q:
How
do I navigate through the lecture notes?
A:
Once
in the Notes section of the fcs1120 web site, click on the lecture name
you want to review. After the file opens, press on either the slide
title on the left of your screen or the directional arrows at the bottom
right of the screen.
Q:
How
do I download the "lecture" notes to print them to hard copy?
A:
Right click on the Downloadable Notes file you want to review, select Save
Link As or Save Target As and select where you want to save your file (a:\
or c:\). Some "lectures" are too big and will not fit on a small flash/thumb/jump drive so you will have to save them on the specified place on the
computer hard drive. If you are downloading your notes on a computer
in a campus lab, there are designated computers for you to save on the
hard drive. After the download completes, you will need to remember
where you save the file so you can find it to review it.
Click on the file name to open teh presentation notes. To print the lesson press on File, Print, press on the down
arrow next to Print. You
do not have to print out the notes. It may even be a good idea to
have a designated time during the week where you sit at the computer and
take notes so that it serves as a review period for you.
Q:
Can
I just print out certain pages of the "lecture" notes?
A:
Yes. After you save the file (presentation) you want from the Downloadable
Notes, click Print and select the page number(s) you want to print.

regarding discussions?
A:
Yes. Each section lab kitchen group will have their own topic area
to talk and discuss what the correct answers should be for the discussion
assigments. Yes the instructor will be able to view the responses
for all lab forums. Your individual participation following the Discussion
Criteria is how you will be graded. It is very important that
you as an individual post your response. If you don't post, you don't get
a grade.
Q:
When
do I attend class?
A:
You

put into action during labs. You will still need to allow three
hours of study time for each credit hour of this course

dates will be the system you decide upon. If you would like recommendations
regarding study habits, please e-mail the instructor.

Q:
What
is a topic in the WebCT discussion
board?
A:
A
WebCT discussion topic is another name for discussion area. You will
be talking electronically within a discussion topic area. However,
this is different from a chat room. You can post your answer to the
discussion topic area at any time and your answer will be posted.
Then, when others log on to WebCT, they can respond to your answer if they
wish. There is not a scheduled time to take part in the disscussion
board like there are with chat rooms. However, you will need to check the
schedule
to make sure you have posted your responses for the discussion assignment
by the due date given. In the topic area, messages are posted and
threaded under each other depending on how you and others reply to a message.
The thread is organized by the subject of the message. You will see
a blue arrow pointing forward when there are several messages related to
a thread. To expand a thread to see all the messages related to that
thread, you will press on the blue arrow which will cause it to point down.
Q:
How
do I navigate through the WebCT discussion
board?
A:
Log on to your WebCT desktop and click on the discussion board icon.
Select Category and then Topic within that area. You may Click Create Message or Reply
to a message by pressing on either the Create Message or Reply Button.
Once you type your message, press Preview. Review your message for
spelling errors and appropriateness. If your message is complete,
press Post. This message will now be viewable to all your section
lab kitchen group classmates.
Q:
How
do I see my newly posted message on the WebCT
discussion board?
A:
To
see your newly posted message, Click on Category or Topic area. Your message or reply will now be viewable to you along
with all the other messages.
Q:
What
if I open up a browser and can't get to the class Web site?
A:

that browser and reopen it. Or you can try another browser.
Q:
