I.  Call to Order

President Kolling called the meeting to order at 1:19 p.m.

President Kolling introduced Michelle Morgan to the senate.   Michelle is the Vice President for the Civil Service Council.

II. New Business

Julie Benedict informed us that the voting for the EAC Representative is on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 in the Greenup Room.   President Kolling also added that anyone interested in volunteering to run the voting booth should contact Paula Embry in Human Resources.

Julie Benedict then explained the duties of the Employee Advisory Committee (EAC) and how EIU is represented on the committee and some possible changes.

•  250-60 Eligible Register

•  Leave of Absences

•  Merit Board

•  Learner | Training Program

•  Abused Items

Julie Benedict encouraged us to join the State Universities Annuitants Association.

The EAC Committee recommended to the Systems Office that the university review those positions that were once civil service and changed to administrative and professional, as they become vacant.   The issue regarding administrative and professional positions versus civil service positions is still in discussion.

There is a process currently that if someone wants an administrative and professional position it goes through the Classification/Compensation Office to make sure it cannot be classified as a civil service position.

President Kolling started a discussion on the bylaws.   The senate discussed changes that need to occur to the bylaws to make it current with what positions are actually represented on the senate.   Once the representatives were clear then the senate figured out the areas that are missing representation and needs to be filled.

The senate then talked about committee assignments:

Parking:   Greg Boyd/Suzann Bennett

CUPB:   Cay Kolling/Sandy Bingham-Porter

Environmental Health and Safety | Vacant

University Union Advisory Board | Zoraida Irizarry/Brad Green/Vacant

University Naming | Adrienne Paladino

Staff Senate/Faculty Senate Relations| Vacant

Tuition and Fee Review | Vacant

Radio-TV Advisory | Vacant

President Kolling then informed the committee that she had received an email from Vice President Nilsen requesting a representative from the Staff Senate to serve on an Internal Campaign Steering Committee.   President Kolling said that she would check into this a little more and let us know at our next meeting.

Senator Greg Boyd then informed the committee that the search for the new Vice President for Business Affairs is moving along and the advertisement has been completed.

President Kolling was invited to the Rededication of the Doudna Fine Arts Center on Friday, October 24, 2008.   Cay asked the senate if anyone would be interested in attending with her and Senator Adrienne Paladino and Senator Sandy Bingham-Porter responded that they would be interested.
