Julie
Benedict, EAC Representative, shared the minutes from the
State Universities Civil Service Advisory Committee Quarterly Meeting
held
January 13 and 14, 2005. Highlights
were veterans’ preference updates, new E-Test for some classifications,
discharge
process to be reviewed in August, the Pilot Program extension, and a
pension
update that they are in the recommendation stage only.
The Civil Service Advisory
Committee website is www.eiu.edu/~humanres/EAC.htm. Chuck Phillips shared that universities are
audited every two years and EIU’s audit
was recently completed. An employee
doesn’t have to be retired to belong to the State
University Annuitants Association (SUAA) and you can sign up
at http://lists.eiu.edu/mailman/listinfo/suaatalk
(there is a link on the EAC website for this, too.)
As a reminder, the State Universities Civil Service
Systems
Director (SUCSS), will hold an open orientation session at EIU on April
5. Anyone is welcome to attend.
Kathy
Cartwright is our representative on the VP of Student
Affairs Search Committee and their first meeting is February 9. The tentative schedule is reviewing
applications March 4, on-campus
interviews conducted in April, and
receiving campus feedback May 5. The
search website is http://www.eiu.edu/~vpsasrch/
.
Kathy
Cartwright will chair the Staff Senate April Elections.
The Election will be held April 27 at the University Union Bookstore
Lounge. There are seats available in:
Non-Negotiated, Negotiated Facilities, AFSCME 981-BSW/FS, AFSCME
981-Clerical/Tech, and A/P. A
Nomination Petition is on the back of these minutes.
If you are interested, please fill the form out and return
to
Kathy Cartwright at the University Union by April 6.
The past chair, Senator Spraker, provided a duties list
and
duties were distributed.
Kathy
Cartwright and Sandy Bingham-Porter reported on the Letter to
Representatives. The committee met
January 27 and they explained the format and content of the letter. In addition, V.P. Nilsen is arranging a bus
for EIU Day at the Capital in Springfield on April 13.
Senator
Spraker, the Tuition and Fee Committee, provided the Staff
Senate with a spreadsheet of Fall 2004 tuition and fees, and currently
voted on
fees. She attended the January 26
Student Government meeting which all fees passed the Student Government. Senator Spraker provided the tentative
timeline for the Director of Facilities Search. The search committee
hasn’t met to review resumes as of this date. Senator
Spraker contacted a past committee member that
researched Day
Care in 1994-1997, recommendations of a needs assessment and survey was
suggested,
reviewed the benefits/costs and budgets in the file, and presented it
to the
Staff Senate. Both Gregg Boyd and
Janice Spraker of the Staff/Faculty Senate Relations Committee attended
the
Faculty Senate meeting of January 18 concerning on-campus Day Care.
Sandy
Bingham-Porter reported on the CUPB meeting and IBHE
recommendations.
The
next meeting is March 9, 2005 in the Schahrer Room. Our
meetings are always open and everyone is
welcome to attend. If anyone has any
questions or issues that they would like us to ask at our next meeting,
please
contact one of the Senators. Senators
