Staff Senate Minutes: September 8, 2004

Vice President Sandy Bingham-Porter called the meeting to order in the Schahrer Room in the University Union.
The
Facilities’ “Construction Update Fall 2004” was
distributed with the agenda. Construction
updates can be found at www.eiu.edu/~physplnt
The
Board of Trustees’ 9/10/04 agenda was shared.
A
letter by Jill Nilsen was read concerning a
proposal to merge Media Relations and University Publications. These two departments have distinctive
responsibilities but are inter-related. The
proposed new name would be the Office of University
Communications. Solicitations for feedback
are being
requested from staff and it will be discuss at the next meeting.
Northern
Illinois University is hosting the 2004
Council of Councils on October 15, 2004. Lori
Creek is obtaining an informational packet. If
anyone is interested, contact the
Secretary, Janice Spraker.
Only
one person has expressed interest for the
Employee Advisory Committee Representative (EAC). The
position will become effective October 1. This
position attends Civil Service Board meetings,
has a voice concerning tests, and works with employees on civil service
issues. Suggestions were made by the
Staff Senate that the EAC Representative could contact effected staff
in
specific situations, the placement of Civil Service regulations in the
Newsletter (similar to the Internal Auditors), etc.
Doug
Sloat shared that the first Council on
University Planning and Budgeting (CUPB) meeting will be September 17.
Sandy
Bingham-Porter stated that volunteers are
always needed to help at Commencement. The
dates for FY05 will be December 18, 2004, and May
(date to be
decided).
The President and Vice President’s will be available at the October meeting for communications.
The next
meeting is October 13, 2004, in the Arcola/Tuscola Room in the Union. Our meetings are always open and everyone is
welcome to attend. If anyone has any
questions or issues that they would like us to ask at our next meeting,
please
let one of the Senators know. The list
