NEW: Summary of New Features for Turnitin Instructors Getting Started1. Please use your EIU email account to email the administrator to request aTurnitin account. You will receive an email notifying you that your Turnitin account has been created. Please allow up to five business days for account creation. 2. Once you receive your account, you will need to login to Turnitin and must create at least one class account before you can submit papers for review. You are not limited to the number of classes you can create. To help with class management paper submission, it is recommended that you create a class account for each class you will submit papers for review. When you create a class, you will receive a password for that class. It is highly recommended that you save that password in a protected area. You will need to distribute the password to students for their class if you prefer students to join the class and submit their assignments to Turnitin. More details about this process are provided with Using Turnitin: Faculty - Adding a Class. 3. You will then need to create one or more assignments for each class you create. It is important to remember that students are permitted one submission of their assignment for review. It is recommended that you create more than one online assignment category for assignments that are continually updated or improved over the period of the semester (e.g. Project Draft Paper , Project Final Paper ). More details about this process are provided with Using Turnitin: Faculty - Adding an Assignment. 4. You may submit papers for your students or have them submit their papers. More details about this process are provided with Using Turnitin: Faculty - Submitting a Paper. 5. Once papers are submitted, you will be provided an Originality Report to view and interpret. More details about this process are provided with Using Turnitin: Faculty - Originality Reports. Syllabus StatementFaculty using the Turnitin tool need to indentify this process on their syllabus. Here is EIU's official syllabus statement:
Academic HonestyFaculty need to be familiar with the Standards of Student Conduct Codes and the proper EIU procedures for reporting academic dishonesty. The office of Office of Student Standards provides resources for both faculty and students. If a faculty member feels a student has broken the Standards of Student Conduct, the Notation of Academic Misconduct form must be downloaded and completed by the faculty member. Next Steps:
