Dr. Angela Glaros

Dr. Baharlou Dr. Angela Glaros is assistant professor of anthropology at Eastern Illinois University. She received a Ph.D. in anthropology with a graduate minor in gender and women's studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2011. Her research concerned the vocal music traditions of the Greek island of Skyros. She also conducts ongoing ethnographic research on Greek Orthodox liturgical chanting, commonly known as "Byzantine" chant, and the politics of asserting continuity between Byzantine and modern identity both in Greece and in the Greek diaspora. She is a vocalist and also plays Middle Eastern percussion instruments.
