Fall 2014
FERN KORY
In Her Own Words (a bit modified):
I presented a paper at the "African American Expression in Print and Digital Culture" conference in Madison, WI on Friday Sept. 19 as part of a panel titled "'What Books, Then, Shall We Choose?' The Impact and Legacy of Charlemae Rollins’ We Build Together (NCTE 1941, 1948, 1967)" organized by Christine Jenkins of the UIUC Graduate School of Library & Information Science. My paper focused on "Building More Democratic Attitudes in Charlemae Rollins’ We Build Together”: Jesse Jackson’s Books for All American Boys."
Closer to home, Ann Brownson and I contributed to Booth Library's 60s retrospective with "Book Power: 1960s Multicultural Children’s Literature" in the Witter Conference Room (4440) on October 28.
