The overarching goals of my research are to understand why brain cells die prematurely in aging humans leading to Alzheimer’s disease, and to develop strategies to prevent, delay, and cure this devastating disease.
My students and I have published over 50 scientific publications including reports in the Science, Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences, Endocrinology, Experimental Neurology, and Brain Research. I believe that research activities involving students are an essential component of a quality education. I have mentored 38 graduate and 39 undergraduate students at Eastern Illinois University, and I am currently supervising 6 students.
I have received research funding from both public and private agencies including National Institute of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), Alzheimer’s Association, and Illinois Department of Public Health.
