and Us"

Centennial Symposium
An Extended Celebration

"We
create technology, but technology has the ability, for the better
and for the worse, to come back and reshape our lives."

While none of us was here when Eastern's School of Technology was started,
yet we are all here now, and we celebrated 100 years of excellence on
its Centennial Anniversary (1902 - 2002)! See how time flies!
We
celebrated technology and how it affected our own lives. First, the
academic year 2002 - 2003 was named "The Centennial Year."
Then at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 20, 2002, we had a reception
and dinner at the University Ballroom along with a special program.
The following day, Saturday, September 21, 2002 we planned optional
events to choose from: A Golf Outing that included lunch, a Tailgate
prior to the Panther Football Game (Hall of Fame Day) and game tickets
in the evening.
An extended Centennial Technology Symposium entitled "Technology
and Us" was held through the fall
2002 and spring
2003 semesters as a continuation of the School of Technology centennial
celebrations. We celebrated technology and how it affected different
aspects of our lives in a practical way as a variety of discipline areas
across EIU campus, as well as guest speakers gave presentations on how
technology affected their disciplines over the past 100 years.
It was said that when sorrows are shared they are divided and minimized,
while joys are multiplied when shared. This web site is meant to share
our joys with you. It comprises a summary of most of the presentations
given at the Centennial Technology Symposium, besides several others
who kindly shared their thoughts and ideas to celebrate with us. This
web site will be "under construction" over the coming weeks,
and will be updated with new articles, links, and photos. Enjoy!
