Activity 4:
Water those Plants
Besides setting aside much of our land, Theodore Roosevelt also helped
to keep it growing. In this activity, we explored his role in
setting up irrigation projects to bring water to the west. In
doing so, we discussed the different types of irrigation systems
including: Micro-Irrigation, Sprinkler-Irrigation, Dry-Farming,
Gravity-Flow Irrigation. To model each of these systems, we
planted lima beans. We watered each one differently according to the
types of irrigation, using spray bottles, eye droppers, and cups.
We will continue to observe our plants and record our findings for four
weeks.
