Jean Baptiste Pointe Du Sable

1745 - Born in Haiti

1750 - He attended a Catholic School in France

1765 - He arrived in New Orleans where he lived for 5 years

1770 - Journeyed up the Mississippi River to Peoria, IL and built a home

1773 - He journeyed up the Mississippi River all the way to chicago and built his Chicago home (which was located near today's Wrigley Building)

1774 - He opened his fur trading business

1784 - His wife and children move from Peoria to Chicago

1796 - His granddaughter was the first child to be born in Chicago

1800 - He moved back to Peoria after selling his Chicago property

1813 - He moved to St. Charles, Missouri to be by his granddaughter

1818 - (August 28th) Jean Baptiste Pointe Du Sable dies

1968 - He is recognized by the city of Chicago and the state of Illinois as the "Founder of Chicago"
