Carl
Sandburg was a great man who achieved MANY things.....

His first book of
poems, "Chicago Poems" was published in 1916.
~Carl's
stories for
children is
published in 1922 called
"Rootagbaga Stories".
~
In 1940 Carl won his
first Pulitzer Prize in history for his
biography "Abraham Lincoln: The War Years"
~
In 1946
"Rememberance Rock", a red
granite boulder in Carl Sandburg Park, was dedicated as a historic
site. Carl and his wife Lilian's ashes are buried there.
~Carl
Sandburg received
an LL.D. from Augustana College, which is a
doctorate-level academic
degree
in law.
~
In
1950 he received a Ph.D. from Uppsala University, in Sweden.
~
Carl won his second
Pulitzer Prize in 1951 for Poetry with his book
called "Complete Poems".

Carl received National
Institute of Arts and Letters gold medal for
history and biography in 1952.

In 1953 Carl attended
"Carl Sandburg Day" banquet in Chicago, IL on
his 75th birthday. He also received Poetry Society of America gold
medal.
~Carl
received
Humanities Award in 1956 from Albert Einstein College of
Medicine.
~Carl
was named
"Honorary Ambassador" of North Carolina on March 27,
1958.
~February
12, 1959 Carl
delivered Lincoln Day address before a joint
session of Congress.
~In
1962, Carl was
designated Poet Laureate of Illinois.
~
In 1963 he also
recieved International United Poets Award as "Hon.
Poet Laureate of the U.S.A"
~
Lyndon B. Johnson
awarded Carl with Presidential Medal of Freedom in
1964.
