Whiteside Garden

August 4, 2013

Beautiful weather and beautiful flowers greeted us on our trip to the Whiteside Garden. Highlights included great looks at giant and pipevine swallowtails, a pair of ovipositing common green darners, curve-tailed bush katydids, tiny tree frogs, and of course the wonderful garden itself.  Many thanks to Dr. Wes Whiteside for letting us roam around his garden in search of bugs.

Our 15 species butterfly list included: pipevine swallowtail, spicebush swallowtail, black swallowtail, tiger swallowtail, giant swallowtail, cabbage white, orange sulphur, eastern tailed-blue, summer azure, pearl crescent, eastern comma, American snout, silver-spotted skipper, Delaware skipper, and zabulon skipper.

We also saw 3 dragonfly species: common green darner, twelve-spotted skimmer, and blue dasher.
