This course is an introduction
to the major tools and policy problems of economics. Economic analysis is applied to a variety of
contemporary problems such as rent control, poverty, monopoly, unemployment,
inflation and economics growth.
Required Textbook: Mankiw, Kneebone, McKenzie, and Rowe (MKMR), Principles of Microeconomics, plus Student Study Guide, and MKMR, Principles
of Macroeconomics, plus Student Study
Guide. Both texts are 3rd Canadian
editions. All of these are available at
the University Bookstore.
Exams:
In-Class Examination (June 4) 10%
Micro Final 40%
(comprehensive, covering material since May 16, 2007)

Note: There
will be a deferred micro exam offered for students who have documentation of
emergencies such as medical or family problems.

Failure to take the final
examination will result in the grade of ABS.
Deferred final examination is only allowed in
cases of medical emergency which must be properly documented. Students must contact the Registrar’s Office
to take the deferred final exam. Please
consult the online version of the 2006/2007 Calendar for additional information
on course requirements.
Students with disabilities
requiring academic accommodations in the course need to contact a coordinator
at the Paul Menton Centre (PMC) for Students with Disabilities to complete the
necessary letters of accommodation. They then need to make an appointment to
discuss their needs with the instructor at least two weeks prior to the first
in-class exam. The deadline for
submitting completed forms to the PMC for scheduling exam accommodations is June 8, 2007 for the micro final and July 27, 2007 for macro final.
