I like Jane Addams because she helped
a lot of people. She opened a settlement house in Chicago that helped
the many people in her community.

I like Jane Addams because she founded
Hull House. I learned that Jane Addams had a friend named Ellen Gates
Starr. Also, she won the Nobel Peace Prize. She died in a Chicago
hospital and was buried in Cedarville, Illinois. Oh yeah, she was
born in Cedarville, Illinois in the year of 1860.

Jane Addams is a very important
person from our Illinois history. She came from a wealthy family,
but was intrigued by those less fortunate than herself. In her childhood,
her father influenced her to help others. After college, Jane traveled
to Europe and saw much poverty. She also saw the world's first settlement
house. She was determined to open her own settlement house in Illinois
where poverty was also evident. Jane and her friend, Ellen, opened
their own settlement house, known as Hull House. At this settlement
house, many of the diverse population of Chicago were welcomed for all
kinds of activities. Jane gave her life and all she had to make the
lives of people in need better.
