1836  Mr. Lincoln became a lawyer
1839 Lincoln was admitted to practice law in the U.S. Circuit Court
1846 Abe was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives as a 
member of the Whig Party
1849 Abe was elected to the Illinois legislature
1854 Lincoln worked to organize the Republican Party in Illinois
November 4, 1860 He was elected the sixteenth president of the United States
January 1, 1863 Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation which resulted in the freedom of 200,000 slaves
November 19, 1863 Abe gave the Gettysburg Address on the battlefied 
in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
November 8, 1864 Lincoln was reelected president
