Miss Florio:
Hello my name is Lauren Florio and I am a senior at Eastern Illinois University studying to be an elementary education and special education teacher. My favorite part about Project WOW was getting an opportunity to get to know the 3rd graders we worked with, and to have real classroom experience teaching social studies. I thoroughly enjoyed planning activities that the students would enjoy, and I am very excited about student teaching in the Spring at an elementary school by my house!
Miss Jennings:
My name is Laura Jennings. I am a senior at Eastern Illinois University and majoring in Special Education and Elementary Education with a concentration in english. I will be student teaching in the spring of 2009 in a suburb of Chicago, and am very excited to graduate in May 2009. I really enjoyed Project WOW because it gave me the opportunity to work with students in third grade while planning and implementing lessons about a really influential hero, Thomas Garrett.
Wes:
Hi my name is Wes. I am a 3rd grader at Carl Sandburg Elementary School. In the future I would like to become a fire fighter, and my favorite foods are pizza and pancakes. My favorite movie is Cars, and I enjoy playing games in my free time. The thing that I liked best about Project WOW was getting to do fun activities like the Thomas Garrett skits
Megan:
Hi my name is Megan. I am also a 3rd grader at Carl Sandburg Elementary School. My favorite food is pizza, and in my spare time I like playing tennis, doing gymnastics, and playing soccer. I love panda bears, and I like reading and learning more about them. My favorite color is violet, and the thing that I enjoyed most about Project WOW was learning about Thomas Garrett and the Underground Railroad.
Jaime:
Hi my name is Jaime, I go to Carl Sandburg Elementary School and I am in 3rd grade. I enjoy drawing pictures, and I am very proud of my heritage. I was born in Mexico, and I go back with my family to visit as often as I can. I like spending time with friends and family, and I have a big family so I always have someone to hang out with. I love reading, and I even read books on the Underground Railroad before learning about it from Miss Florio and Miss Jennings! My favorite part about Project WOW was getting to do fun activities that got me out of my seat.
Jack:
Hi my name is Jack and I am a 3rd grader at Carl Sandburg Elementary School! I love spending time with my friends, and I enjoy being outside. I love drawing, and I enjoy writing in cursive. One of my favorite sports is baseball, and I collect baseball cards. My favorite part about Project WOW was getting to do new activities and write like an abolitionist. I especially liked the skits that we did where I got to read parts from the narrator, Thomas Garrett, and a Slave Catcher!
