The
Rock Climbing mini field
trip was led by Dr. John Pommier, rock climber and
EIU professor with a vast array of knowledge. He explained the importance of having control over your footing at all times. Additionally, always scan the area with your eyes to find the safest place to place your hands and feet. The most easily made mistake that can cost a climber their life is not keeping a clean rope. There are two types of ropes, dynamic and static, Dynamic rope is used for climbing and is very stretchy. Dirt can find its way into these ropes and cut the elastic bands from the inside. Once cut, the rope will snap in pieces! |
