Renae Hernandez, a
shopkeeper from Ace Hardware in Charleston, IL, came to tell us what it
is like to work in a hardware store. This is important because
when Abe Lincoln was young, he owned a General Store. She showed
us some things that Ace Hardware sells that Lincoln probably sold in
his store, too. Some of those things were an axe, a washboard,
milk paint, lye soap, nails and so much more.
Here is Evan watching Ms.
Hernandez showing us a real axe.

milk paint.
Here are Paige and Jakob
looking at a washboard, which is how people used to wash clothes.
SFC Rogowitz and LTC Coblentz
are militiamen. They work in the same unit (Blackhawk) that
Lincoln did while he was Captain of the Blackhawk war! They came
to tell us all about the similarities and differences between their
unit today and back when Lincoln was serving it. They answered
all of our questions and we learned a lot.
Here are
Jakob, Quinten and Hallie looking at a map LTC Coblentz drew for us.
Here are Hallie, Quinten, Jakob and Evan
watching one of the presentations.
Thank you Ms.
Hernandez and SFC Rogowitz and LTC Coblentz!
