Gandhi's Nonviolent Fight for Freedom

Gandhi fought without violence to win freedom for the Indian people and for the Untouchables.  He did this by fasting, not eating.  He felt everyone should be treated equal. He spent much of his life in jail. He finally won independence for India in 1947.  Gandhi also led a Salt March to win freedom to make or supply themselves with their own salt.  This way they did not have to buy salt from the British.  Gandhi was a hero for Martin Luther King, Jr.
