Rev. W. Andrew Robinson, Ph. D., M.A., B.A., A.A.S., C.I.D.O., C.O.T., a native of the southwestern region of Virginia, received his calling into the ministry at the age of seventeen. God revealed to him a starving generation of souls in the midst of a famine for the Word of God and his divine purpose was to feed the people of the Lord with the true heavenly bread, God’s holy and unadulterated Biblical word. He was ordained into the ministry in may 1984. Dr. Robinson lives in Charleston, Illinois, with his wife Wanda Kay, and their daughter Andrea Kay, who is a student at Eastern Illinois University. His wife is an Office Administrator for the Office of Faculty Development at EIU.
Education
Dr. Robinson earned a Doctor of Bible Knowledge from the United Christian International Bible Institute in Cleveland, TN; a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Professional Studies in Education and two graduate certificates - Certificate of Online Teaching and Certificate of Instructional Design for Online Learning - from Capella University in Minneapolis, MN; a Master of Arts degree in Speech Communication and Bachelor of Arts degree, with a psychology minor, from EIU; and an Associate of Applied Sciences Degree from Southwest Virginia Community College.
Dr. Robinson teaches full-time for the Department of Communication Studies in the College of Arts and Humanities at Eastern Illinois University. Dr. Robinson also teaches, as an adjunct, online graduate courses for the Department of Human Resource in Education in the School of education at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign. He received the Roger Whitlow Award for Excellence in Teaching from the School of Continuing Education at EIU in 2008.
Dr. Robinson’s two main research interests are online education and religious coping. For example, he has studied “Positive or Negative Valence toward Computer-Mediated or Online Teaching and Learning Among Higher Education Faculty” and the topic of his most recent research, “Keepin’ the Faith: Crisis Management in Missionary Populations” is a joint venture with another colleague within the Department of Communication Studies.
Dr. Robinson designed and taught the Department of Communication Studies’ first Web-based course. He has transferred a number of existing courses to the online environment and develop original online courses while at EIU - e.g., “Applied Communication” and “Communication and Education in Cyberspace.” He teaches “Design of Learning Systems” for the University of Illinois, which involves teaching teachers how to design online courses.
Dr. Robinson is a life-long learner who applied integrative teaching and learning in his courses. Whether courses taught by him be delivered web-based, web-enhanced, or in a traditional classroom, he utilizes constructivist and collaborative teaching and learning strategies to enhance students’ learning experiences. William Arthur Ward said, “The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” This exemplifies Dr. W. Andrew Robinson’s teaching philosophy and practice.
Ministry History
From 1985-1989, Dr. and Mrs. Robinson traveled as evangelists conducting soul-winning and inspirational revivals in thirty-five states. They founded their firs church and Christian school and began producing weekly televised Christian programs in Roanoke, Virginia, in early 1989. Eight years later, they heard God calling them to Charleston, Illinois, where Dr. Robinson has served as a pastor of New Life Apostolic Church (NLAC) at 2055 East Harrison in Charleston, IL from January 1997-April 2007. After ten years with NLAC, he founded an EIU campus ministry called Christ Ministries. He is currently the pastor of Christ Ministries, which works jointly with ACTS-Apostolic Christians in Today’s Society, an EIU Recognized Student Organization for which Dr. Robinson serves as the Faculty Advisor.
