TEC 5323 Advanced Database Technology
Sample
Application of Web-Enabled Oracle Database
(Supplemental Reading
2 of Chapter 3)
In this section, you will see an application of web-enabled Oracle database. This sample was developed by a graduate student. The user is totally isolated from the database engine. The front end (user interface) was developed using Java Server Page (JSP), which runs a web server called Tomcat. The backend is an Oracle 10g database, exactly what we are studying for this course.
Please note that developing such an application is beyond the scope of this course that focuses on server technology. Typically, this work falls into the responsibility of a Java developer. If you like to be involved in similar projects, please contact the instructor.
The username to login is: cutesting, and the password is also cutesting. The database is in production mode. The user was a student in Fall 2004. Please do not change the user password for the sake of other students in the course.

Two database administrators (DBA) went for hunting. After some careful planning and patient waiting, they shot a large moose. They were dragging the animal back to their truck. A colleague of theirs happened by and said, "I do not want to tell you what to do, but it will be a whole lot easier if you drag the moose in the other direction so that the antlers do not dig into the ground."
After their colleague left, the two DBAs decided to try it his way. After a while, one said to the other, "Man, that guy was totally right. This is easier."
"Yeah, " the other replied, "but we keep getting farther and farther away from the truck."
