For
our mini-field trip,
Team Cousteau joined our friends from the Rachel Carson Team at Lantz
Pool
to hear from real-life scuba divers and EIU faculty members Ray Padovan
and Roger Darding. We got to see demonstrations of all of the
equipment,
including the air tanks which Captain Cousteau helped to invent.
Roger even showed us how the equipment worked in the water by getting
into
the pool! We were all very excited to see how all of the diving
equipment
worked together. Many third graders said they wanted to learn how
to scuba dive when they were old enough. Our mini-field trip was
a success! |
These vests, suits,
flashlights,
flippers, and regulators were all brought in for our team to see.

pool, all suited
up.

Ray shows us how the
airtank, vest
(also called BC), and regulator fit together.
|
Ray shows the team how
the airtank
works. It made a LOUD noise when he let some of the air out!
|
The third
graders all watch
while Roger demonstrates how diving equipment works in the pool.

from Team Carson to get
a group picture with
our presenters
Ray and Roger.
