Walking the Footsteps
of Lewis and Clark
On
January 24, 2002 our Grizzly group leaders (Blain, Dorothy, and Lindsey)
set off on an adventure themselves, along with other team leaders in search
of information about the Lewis and Clark expedition. Our travels
took us to Southern Illinois and St. Louis, Missouri, to see places that
Lewis and Clark actually visited. We visited Cahokia Mounds and learned
about the Indians that roamed in Illinois territory long before the expedition.
We also traveled to the Courthouse in the city of Cahokia were Lewis and
Clark were believed to have visited and spent some days just before beginning
their journey. One of the last things we witnessed was the beautiful
St. Louis Arch, which is the symbol for the Gateway to the West.
Under the arch we visited the Museum of Westward expansion and read words
from the actual journals of Merriweather Lewis and William Clark.
We took a journey that enlightened our minds and gave us much information
about what the men of this expedition went through to take back to our
students. Here are some pictures from our trip and the many things
that we found about this great expedition.
