The Childhood of Cesar Chavez


     Cesar Estrada Chavez was born March 31, 1927 near Yuma, Arizona.  His family lost their home and farm due to the Great Depression.  His family then moved to California and began their life as migrant farm workers.  Cesar soon became aware of the hardships and injustices of a farm workers life.  Cesar did not like school because he was always moving around and was often discriminated againtst for speaking Spanish.  Cesar quit school after the eighth grade and started to work in the fields full time to help support his family.  Cesar's childhood was filled with many hardships.  At the age of eighteen Cesar joined the Navy and served in the Pacific during World War II.  After the was Cesar dedicated his life to improving the lives of others.
