Cesario Estrada Chavez is born
1937
Due to the Great Depression, the Chavez family lose their farm and move to California to become migrant workers.
1944
Cesar joins the Navy and serves in the Pacific durind World War II.
1948
Cesar marries Helen Fabela
September 30, 1962
The first convention of Cesar's National Farm Workers Association (NFWA) is convened in Fresno, California.
 September 16, 1965
 Five year Delano Grape Strike begins
March 1966
Cesar embarks upon a 340 mile pilgramage from Delano to Sacramento to draw attention the suffering of farm workers.
 Spring 1966
NFWA becomes United Farm Workers (UFW) 
 June 1975
Cesar gets the landmark Agricultural Labor Relations Act passed throuh the California state Legislature. 
 1986
Cesar kicks off the "Grapes of Wrath" campaign to draw attention to the pesticide poisoning of farm workers.
 Summer 1988
Cesar begins his longest fast for 36 days
1991
Cesar is awarded the Aztec Eagle, Mexico's highest award presented to people of Mexican heritage.
April 23, 1993
Cesar Chavez dies peacefully in his sleep
August 8, 1994
President Bill Clinton presents the Medal of Freedom, America's highest civilian honor, to Cesar Chavez.  The award was accepted by Ceasar's widow.
