Labor Agreements

University Professionals of Illinois (UPI)

EIU/UPI is the collective bargaining agency for tenure-track faculty, annually contracted faculty (ACFs), and academic support professionals (ASPs).  Contract information can be found by searching the index at the top of the Academic Affairs website .  Under contracts, choose either Unit A or Unit B.

Current Contract Dates :   September 1, 2002 to August 31, 2006 .  These dates are applicable for both Unit A (tenure track faculty) and Unit B (annually contracted faculty and ASPs).

Union Dues/Fair Share :   Union dues are calculated according to the method provided by UPI.  Currently, dues are calculated as 0.6% of the annual salary plus a Per Capita amount set by the union.  There are three levels of  per capita, depending on the monthly FTE. Union dues are calculated as a yearly amount and then divided by 9 to find the monthly deduction amount.  Dues are calculated by the Payroll Office, Room 2011, Old Main, extension 2118.  If a faculty member subject to dues has not signed up to be a member of the union, a fair share deduction will take effect.  The fair share amount is calculated in the same manner as the union dues.  Dues are taken only during the academic year, September through May.  The amount of union dues deducted each month will normally remain the same unless there is a change in salary.

Civil Service Unions:

Currently, there are nine groups of civil service employees that are represented by unions.  Listed below is information on contract dates, dues and contacts for each of those nine unions.  Questions concerning contracts should be directed to the Employee and Labor Relations Department, Room 2117, Old Main, extension 2610 or 8312.

The Payroll Office administers aspects of the contracts dealing with payroll and with calculation of union dues and fair share rates, if other than a flat rate.
