Project 1 Installation of Oracle Database

Task:

The major task is to install Oracle 10g/11g enterprise edition with Enterprise Manager (EM). The following is the minimum requirement for the project:

  1. Register with Oracle Technology Network.
  2. Download the Oracle 10g/11g version appropriate for your own computer system. (The university has a corporate license agreement with Oracle. Thus, you may use it for any academic purpose.)
  3. Read Oracle's installation guide before installation.
  4. Install Oracle 10g/11g following the installation guide. Please make notes on the password(s) that you input during the installation.
  5. Be able to access Oracle Enterprise Manager (EM) in your own computer system.
  6. Login Oracle SQL Plus as SYSTEM/password.

Note:

  1. TEC 5323 Advanced Database Technology is a prerequisite for this course. If you have difficulty installing the Oracle software or accessing the database after installation, you may want to go through my course web site on TEC 5323 Advanced Database Technology at:

    http://www.eiu.edu/~pingliu/tec5323/Schedule/tec5323schedule.htm
  2. If you have already installed Oracle 10g/11g in your computer, please do NOT uninstall and reinstall it. It is fine to use the previous installation as long as EM and SQL Plus work.

Report:

You are required to submit a Microsoft Word file that contains the following:

  1. A screen shot of Oracle Enterprise Manager (EM) after successful login. (50 points) Typically, you may use combined keys of ALT+PrintScreen to capture your screen shot if you use PC.

  2. A screen shot of your login Oracle SQL Plus as SYSTEM/password. After your login, type "SHOW USER" before you do the "Print Screen." (50 points)

Convention for File Name: Please name your file as firstname_lastname_project1.doc, where firstname and lastname are your first and last name, respectively, and "_" is underscore. The file naming convention will be enforced throughout this semester. Five (5) points will be taken off if the file is not named according to the convention.

Due:
