Every Oracle database uses a number of system tables and views to keep track of database objects in the database. This collection of system objects (tables and views) is called data dictionary or system catalog. Data dictionary is an effective tool to find out about information on database objects in the database.

This week's discussion focuses on applications of data dictionary.

  2. Provide a SQL query to find out the names of existing tables?
  3. What is the difference between DBA_TABLES, ALL_TABLES and USER_TABLES?
  4. What is the difference between USER_TABLES and USER_OBJECTS?
