Objectives of Week 2

This week introduces the basic techniques used to access and modify data in an Oracle database. Those techniques are essential for application development for any practical database. Structured Query Language (SQL) is the core of database technology.

 

      1. Concept of Structured Query Language (SQL).
      2. Type of SQL Commands.
      3. SQL Syntax.
      4. Operations and Functions in SQL Statement.
      5. DESCRIBE command for table structure.
      6. DUAL table.
      7. Relational Operators in SQL Statement.
      8. Subquery.
      9. Grouping and Ordering.
      10. Table Joins.
      11. Data Modification: Insert, Update and Delete.
      12. Concept of Transactions.

    Summer students: Your textbook covers more than we need for this course. You may use your textbook as a reference. But, the class note for this week will give you all information you need for the projects. I highly recommend that you go through the exercises one-by-one from the class note.
