When Lewis and Clark stayed at Fort Clatsop, before their return journey, it rained everyday except for twelve days. They were short of food so the men were sick often. While they stayed there, they found a beached whale on a nearby shore. They took old whale meat to eat.
Fort Clatsop was made out of wood. It took over three weeks for the men to build it. It was surrounded by a fence and they had lookout tower to oversee the fort. The fort was fifty feet sqare.
