Rachel Carson, we found some pretty cool things!! Here are some
of
our favorites:
Did you
know
that....
Rachel's favorite book
was Under
the Sea-Wind.
As much as she loved
the sea, Rachel didn't even see it until she was in her early 20's.
Rachel died from cancer,
the one thing she was trying to save others from.
Rachel's close friends
called her Ray.
After hearing about
the dangers of pesticides from Rachel's book Silent
Spring, President John F. Kennedy formed a committee to look
into the dangers of pesticides.
Rachel never married,
but she raised her niece, nephew, and her niece's son.
Rachel wrote
Silent Spring after receiving a letter from a friend
telling her that birds were dying
from pesticides.
Rachel published her
first story at the age of ten.
Rachel has a Wildlife
Refuge named after her.
